Is judgement a force of nature?!

Travel-Insurance-to-Face-Natural-Disasters

I hate judgement. I hate the look people give you when they judge you. I hate the Sunday-school lectures they give every time your way isn’t their way. I hate it when I do something, or I am certain way and someone else sees that as a flaw to be corrected, a jab to be thrown, a wall to be repainted. I like my black corners and my water marks, mind your own business, kind sir. Do I tell you how to paint your walls and live your life?! But, I wonder, do these people know they create feelings inside you that could eventually build up into a good old homicide, or are they just being …themselves?

That makes me wonder… Why do we judge?
Is it to make ourselves feel better, bigger, stronger, superior or is it just a habit? Is judgement taught? Can it be untaught?
And what would that take?
Love is the most powerful weapon; so would it take a huge, core-shaking, big love to change a judgmental person?!
And if yes, what can you do; you the random victim, the vagabond who simply finds himself between the “before” and “after” of this transformation? Is it like dating an ugly person? I mean, like when you date an ugly woman and then you make her more cocky and harder for others to pick up… If you attack and confront a judgmental… I’ll say it, prick… do you make things better or worse?
How could you handle the situation, the array of rules and “musts” of another person, if not by confrontation?

One thing you’re not supposed to confront and fight is a natural disaster. Could “judgement” be like a natural disaster? Could it be   that we’re not supposed to fight or argue with it but just… endure it?! philippines-typhoon-haiyan-2013

A tsunami you endure by “going high”… How is a life-choice correcting seminar endured?!
Surely you’re not supposed to overeact. Or correct the other person, because that’s just hypocritical, you correct someone who’s trying to correct you?! Am I the only one who sees the irony in that?!
You can’t ignore them, that’s rude. You can’t explain to them why you’re like that, they could never understand; they’re different and if they could understand they wouldn’t be trying to correct you in the first place!

Let’s reflect back on our favorite prophet here, none other than the Christian god Jesus Christ, son of El and Mary who famously said: “Love thy neighbor and their dog Rufus who barks in the middle of the night”. According to our spiritual leader here what you’re supposed to do is to… take it, sprinkle love all over it and give it back to them because you don’t need it.

And I think he’s precisely correct. Why bother wasting your time on every insecure, selfish, jerk-faced, back-stabbing hoe-bag who thinks she’s got all the truths of this world figured out, when you can just politely say: “I think you might be right, I’ll try and change that, but don’t expect much now!” or “I get what you’re saying and I see where you’re coming from but I really like my walls that way and they don’t bother me in the least… so I think I might stick with this color[ and if I get tired of it I might just change it, like you said]”
or the good old fashioned “Fuck you, nobody asked for your opinion, you can keep it in your sock-drawer”

I want Jude Nelson’s hair, is that so bad?!

Just don’t ask where I’ve been…! I’ve seen stuff and it took me long to get over them.
This week amongst other things it’s movie week. One movie I’d really like to talk to you about is The Breakfast Club. I don’t know how but I didn’t get to watch it as a kid. Call it bad timing with the TV guide call whatever you want. Anyways, I had to look it up,downlo…rent it and watch it by myself. And boy is it one of those movies that stick with you.

so there I was sitting on my desk….well on a chair close to my desk to be exact, enjoying a cup of coffee and pressing play on what I thought was just an ’80s high school chick flick. So I was pretty excited as you can understand! Before I go off explaining the plot a bit like I usually do let me say that if you didn’t like The Breakfast Club, then you better forget about me…! (That’s where you’re supposed to laugh, nevermind..)

So… a douche-y teacher(Paul Gleason) is called to supervise an 8-hour Saturday detention some of his students got. John Bender (Jude Nelson), Claire (Molly Ringwall), Andrew(Emilio Estevez), Brian( Anthony Michael Hall) and Allison(Ally Sheedy). At first and for the rest of the movie Bender is the rudely honest prick and at first they all don’t get along very well. He seems to be the only one with an array of past parental abuse and mental scarring but that’s far from correct. At this point anything I say will ruin the plot of the movie so all I’m gonna say is that no one dies.

This movie serves your self-righteousness right back in your face. Gets you out of your box and breaks the stereotypes Varsity Blue would set again, 14 years later. No one is perfect and no one has it that much worse than everyone else. It’s more often than usual that people try to pretend they’re the saddest in the world. What an illusion that is. No one cares enough to ask about what’s really bothering us all in order to find out that other people have issues too. We all deal with them in different ways, some are better at hiding them than others, some are strong enough to overcome them and some even go through them in one piece. It’s silly to assume that someone has no problems just by the way they act, stupid to assume that whatever it is it’s not as bad as yours and even more stupid if you let these issues stand between you.

An iconic film that feels like… I’ve always had watched I just didn’t know I did. Again I’m sorry universe I’m make it up to you.

Overall it’s more than a great movie I wish I had already watched. I know this is no pro review, just some of my feelings abut the movie all I could put into words at least…”Who am I..? Who am I..? I am a Walrus.” Gonna watch Easy A now. Bye.

Why I like dogs. And why I am like a dog.

I’d like to take a coffee-break from all the continuous and very consistent fun we’ve all been having to talk about feelings. And people. And people’s feelings.

Throughout my life there are a lot of things I’ve noticed. I’ve noticed that Gloria Estefan can work into any conversation. I’ve noticed that pandas are actually very lazy; don’t have many babies and natural selection-y speaking they don’t deserve to be on this planet any more. I’ve noticed that there are more Disney-obsessed people out there than you’d think. And I’ve also noticed that people are selfish and insecure.

Chapter one: Why people are insecure and selfish. Let me give you a personal example.

I’m what you’d a call a funny guy. Not Ellen-DeGeneres-funny, not even Jennifer-Aniston-funny but that’s what I do. I make people laugh. I’m also a lot like Patrick from the Perks of Being a Wallflower. I don’t like to talk about serious stuff a lot.

Now, what I’ve noticed is that people never take you seriously unless you’re a what I call an “attention whore” when it comes to serious stuff. You know these people and it’s about them I’m gonna talk about. It’s that one person who always says the most cliché things when someone’s sad, stuff that everyone knows and treats the situation like it’s an in-progress gang rape. They put their serious face on and want everyone to do the same. I also call them “drama queens of the sad train” and “unnecessary mood killers”(or “killed mood accentuaters” – it’s a thing).

As you can probably tell, I’m not like that. I don’t like to say fake things that everyone can and are as expected as a “bless you” after a sneeze. I like to just be there and say what the other person needs or has to hear. People are not stupid. They don’t think it’s gonna be OK. They don’t believe they’ll get through it as “time goes by”. So I don’t say that crap.
Now, as I mentioned people never take me seriously. At school I was never elected as anything because people didn’t think I could accomplish anything. People feel the need to warn me when someone’s sad so that I don’t make jokes. What does this all have to do with insecurity?!
As I see it people see a good sense of humor and kindness as weakness. As something unreliable and they feel the need to put you down for having them, but you know that’s not true. You know you could console someone in a way that’s more intimate and true than anyone who feels they need to wear black and start crying with them. It’s just that people want to feel good about themselves. They want to feel that they’re better than you and they want to be the ones getting the sad person’s attention. “You’re the comic relief character that I go to when I want to goof around, now let me handle the serious stuff. There there honey it’s all gonna be OK…. What are YOU still doing here? Don’t you have a joke to tell?! Somewhere else?!”

It’s a rich blend of insecurity mixed with self-gratification and a topping of lack of faith in other people, but that can’t hold a candle to how much people want to feel superior and noticed. Not-in-the-least.

Obviously I’m talking about grief. Never in my life has a sad person sought comfort from me or has entrusted me with anything more than “look at this hello kitty picture and how weirdly it’s dressed”.

I like to treat sadness with laughter, companionship and friendship and assuring people that no matter what crap is going on with them,I’ll always be something stable in their life. If you’re like me and people can’t appreciate you then know this: It’s not your problem. It’s their fault for wanting to have as much drama in their life as humanly possible and there’s not much you can do to show them otherwise, other than your life’s example.

I hope you can understand my train of thought that’s bouncing all over. I will see you when I have something to talk about.

Greetings from Midgard.

Ellen’s been posting about this on Facebook and tweeter for some time now,I tried it and I gotta say, putting RedBull on your coffee is not that bad… you’re just drinking one coffe instead of two…of course you have to finish the rest of the can so it’s basically one can and a coffee, but irregardless…not as bad. I also cooked today. Pasta with ratatouille out of a can. I’m gourmet, bitch.

After having filled myself with caffeine I went to this A-mazing website one of my best friends, “I”, suggested.  It’s called coursera and what you do there is take free courses online about anything you like…! I know right?! How amazing is this? I took rock history and Hollywood history(of some sort,it’s basically a movie club). Not only do you get to enrich your CV but it’s pretty interesting too! So I’m really looking forward to that, hoping I can finish those AND to not fall behind on my actual studies… I’ll update you on that later!

I also remembered this great movie a friend of mine,”N”,was talking “aboat”,it’s called “I’m so excited” by Almodovar and the theme is as gay as the title so I thought it’d be fun to check it out! I’m planning on watching “Bringing Up Baby”(1938) too, from a Modern Family episode I just watched (that Alex! She uses words like facetious in her everyday life,so amazing!) The movie is supposed to be this light comedy with Cary Grant so that’d be fun!enhanced-buzz-4833-1313357585-3

While we’re on the topic of changing topics, this great friend of mine, and easily one of the coolest people ever, showed me this photo today saying how Odin promised to defeat all the Ice Giants and how there are no Ice Giants around. That’s when it hit me and I realized the truth. I saw the big picture and suddenly everything was clear to me. It hit me harder than Thelma and Louise hit the bottom of that cliff….!  My name is now Eric the Red and I believe in the Norse Gods. So there’s that.

I also plan to start working out again. Wish me luck and pray to Odin for me, ’cause I’m laaaaa-zy.!

I love sharing music with y’all(sorry, like I said, too much ellen) so today we’re going to talk about Kevin,I mean Churchil, the band. Unfortunately they’ve been disbanded so get your hipster on and listen to their best songs, “The War Within”, Happy Sad” and “Change”. And Just because it’s only 3 songs….oh I know, Hey Rosetta – “Yet Spring” and the best of the Ramones!! ( Bop and I Wanna be Sedated)

P.S. “I”,I still can’t get that song Milkshake out of my head…

Quote of the day : “Once, mankind accepted a simple truth: that they were not alone in this universe. Some worlds man believed home to their Gods. Others they knew to fear. From around the cold and darkness came the Frost Giants, threatening to plunge the mortal world into a new ice age.” Odin

West Side Drama…

west-side-storyBack on track. Movie number 7. West side freaking story! Released on 1961 it’s one of the most recent of our featured movies so far. I’ve been wanting to watch west side story for months now but the moment i saw the first scene i would turn the computer off! It’s a great musical with amazing songs and music. But i wasn’t all that excited… i don’t know if it was the accent, the bad acting or the only-good-for-dancing supporting actors but west side story besides being a romantic romeo and juliet offspring it was …weird most of the time…

The plot. Eventhough i think i already “spoiled” it by saying romeo and juliet… In the streets of New York somewhere in a “deserted” ghetto the streets are ruled by two gangs, the Jets led by Riff  and the Sharks  led by Bernardo. The Jets are your stereotypical xenophobic americans and the Sharks are your stereotypical “poor boys from poor families who need no sympathy” Puerto Ricans… They hate each other, in addition they’re all immature, yes even the 30-year olds…. In a dance in which both gangs adressed, Maria, Bernardo’s little sister, and Tony,former-yet sentimental leader of the Jetts, meet. They instantaneously fell madly in love and started dancing. Maria’s brother disapproves and recalls her back to “the casa” immediatly…That same night he receives a fight request from Riff. In that fight in his attempt to stop the fighting and unite the rivaling gangs Tony gets involved and kills Bernardo, after Bernardo had killed Riff… Maria soon forgives him and wants to help him not get caught… Buuut, situations evolve and before you know it Rom…Tony is killed by Chino, the man Bernado wanted to give to Maria… Maria then falls into despair and threatens to kill as many people as she can and then kill herself. And boom! the twist, she doesn’t. She tells them that all that has happened because of their stupid hatred and she leaves ready to fight for the union of the two gangs…

Well now that i think about it, if you get used to the accent and the bad acting of some of the dancers-actors the choreography is amazing-perfect coordination- and the story isn’t that unoriginal,i mean..she lives!! But enyway i liked the meaning behind all that. Like in Romeo and Juliet it’s shown that hate and stubborness can’t get you enywhere… that you should stop hating and start loving, while you still can because at some point, after many years of never-ending hating, you won’t be able to stop and life is too short to spend it hating, spend it loving and having fun, and all that… If the Jetts and the Sharks weren’t fighting like babies for who’s gonna get the streets for themselves, Maria/Juliet whould be with Tony/Romeo and have lived happily ever after…

Well, that’s it for today. It’s time to listen to…Fleetwood mac. Landslide, songbird, don’t stop,go your own way,i don’t want to know are some of my favourite fleetwood mac songs. Make them yours!

That’s the way the cookie crumbles

Wow if you thought the last break was big this one must’ve seemed like a million years! Well not like a million years, it’s more like….a few months or weeks… anyway… i present you….

Movie Number 6. The apartment. It starts in a very interesting way which reminded me of how the 101 dalmatians started, with the dog talking about its life with Roger. But enough with the references let’s cut to the chase, shall we?jack-lemmon-shirley-maclaine-the-apartment

The movie’s about an employ, C.C. Baxter( Jack Lemmon) and his incurable habit of lending his apartment to his supervisors to go there with their girlfriends. All this to be promoted, but don’t get a bad idea, he’s a nice guy all and all… But the plot starts to thicken when he finds the girl he likes, Fran Kubelik (Shirley McLayne), with the company president( or whatever he was…),in his apartment… Then she tries to commit suicide  but she is rescued by Baxter and his neighbor, who of course is under the impression that Baxter is a man-whore after after hearing all these women coming and going out of his apartment. After that it’s pretty classic, she realizes that she loves him as much as he does and they end up together….

Baxter’s “catchphrase” was “that’s the way it crumbles,cookie-wise”. I really liked this, it reminded me of Bruce almighty when Jim Carey says “And that’s the way the cookie crumbles’ !

The apartment is an amazing comedy-romantic movie that i advise you to watch,if you haven’t seen it yet that is…

Is march over already? Well in this case i’d tell you to listen to every bon jovi song as soon as possible cause you don’t have much time! Next month we’ll go for  nightwish!
